Our swimming pool was getting little use...
Our swimming pool was getting little use except for the summer months and possibly when a Santa Ana blew into town, and the water was mostly cold. It consumed water and energy at an increasing rate, but it did look good. Heating the water was out of the question due to the costs. We saw an ad for a Dimension One Swim Spa by Aquatic Fitness Concepts with the associated wording that it could replace a demolished swimming pool. Our immediate thought was that the swim spa would be heated, use less water, allow us to do many exercises that cannot be done in a swimming pool and in your own home, and available year round. We thought also about inserting the spa into the reinforced walls of the swimming pool, rather than demolish and rebuild since this should save the demolition and refill costs. Talking it over with Chuck Campos, the Construction Foreman at Aquatic Fitness Concepts, we designed the insertion of the Swim Spa and a Dimension One hot tub (using the shallow and deep end of the pool areas); installed decking, tile, pavers, steps, electrical, water, and drainage inside the pool walls; and covered it with a pergola using treated wood and other materials that termites hate. We now have a “room inside the hole” where we have a table and chairs, storage, and other amenities. The pergola protects us and the equipment from the harshness of the sun, and is usable year round. We found this to be a new idea to others, but it works and saved us money overall. I thank JT for his help with the Swim Spa and Chuck Campos and crew for their work. They were timely, professional, and cost conscious. We endorse and recommend them to others.

"The Aqua Pro 19 is just the right choice for my family – I think better than the Dual Temp because I like to exercise in the swim lane for a while then relax in the hydrotherapy chair. In the Pro model this is easy to do because there is no separating wall to climb over. Since it was installed three months ago, my family has enjoyed using it nearly every day, including our parents (in their 70’s) that live with us during the winter.
If we had gone with a conventional swimming pool, we would all just be staring at it wishing the water were warmer, or we would be adding hundreds to our gas bill trying to heat the water and the surrounding earth. So far, our D1 swim spa has added only $80 to $90 to our electric bill. It is so well insulated that, with the cover on, the water temp drops less than three degrees, even during a frosty night.
We had our swim spa installed mostly in-ground, with about 18 inches above to make getting in and out easier. It really looks great this way and I’m sure we are the envy of the neighborhood as our neighbors hear us splashing and having fun every evening.
